Yes, these returns exist in crypto without rolling the dice on meme coins - but they’re never guaranteed, and they always come with risk.
In the primary markets, protocols pay you a share of fees and incentives for doing useful work:

Two things move at once in a crash: asset prices and yield levels.
If crypto sells off, the dollar value of your positions can drop
That's true whether you’re holding spot assets or earning yield on them.
The difference with a yield‑focused approach is that you’re not relying only on price going up.
You’re also getting paid from protocol activity: trading fees, lending interest, restaking rewards, and incentive programs.
In a deep drawdown or a dead sideways market:
- Yield can compress if volume dries up or incentives change.
